Mason M. and his buddy Bo from Memphis fished with me on Saturday. Our day began with some lower flows and some hopper action on the surface with a couple of good bows as well as Masons first Cutthtroat trout.
He was very happy about this fish. About 60 seconds before he caught it he was asking me about cutthroat trout and then he hooked and landed this fish. Good job Mason. A good day with terrestrials and a dropper.
On sunday the terrestrials did not work well at all. I fished with Mary Ann and her mother from Missouri. Mary Ann teaches flyfishing, rod building and fly tying at a college. She is a great caster and sets a hook very well. The number of fish we caught was poor for the day and less than 20 with no fish to brag about. Reports from mondays fishing were even worse so I’m happy I did not guide that day. Monday was a different story with lots of fish for the morning and they were fat, healthy and sassy on a unit and a half.
Tuesday evening I fished with Mike N. from Houston and he did hook and land this 22 incher on 8 units in shallow grass on a streamer. It was the only fish for the 1/2 day of fishing but we hit it again today and did land this 20 incher as well as one small bow.
For the weekend generation was 24 hours and kicked up to 8 units in the heat of the afternoons except for Sunday. Reports on low water at the dam for this morning were good with #18 sow bugs as the best fly.
