Fishing Report~Hatchery Petition: Please Sign

The Corps is at it again!  Not updating the the recording when they are generating as well as not following the generation schedule but we are used to that one.  Be careful when you fish the White River and do not trust the recording 870-431-5311 but only use it as a reference.  This past week generation has started early and run for only a few hours.  On thursday I took my fisherman up to the dam expecting a couple of hours out of the boat as the schedule was predicting two hours.  Boy was I wrong as generation only lasted one hour.  I loaded up the boat and took my fisherman down stream where we got into fish on dropping water.  After the water dropped out we began wading which was very productive with San Juan worms, planarium, JuJu bees, Leonards Roo scud, Trout Crack and Richard Ramsys’ black emerger midge.  We did get a couple of brown trout of no real size other than one about 18 inches pictured above.  Al R. from the Chicago area has a hoot casting upstream with a long leader and split shot and banged away at the bows out for a couple of hours.

Here is Al with a big grin on his face.  His buddy Jim did pretty well on WB’s in olive #12’s dangled down stream.  He was counting out the number of fish he was catching.  His grin was even bigger than Al’s as Jim caught his first trout ever on this day and pounded out numbers of fish.  At 3:30 someone flipped the catching switch and they shut down hard.

Stay safe and wade with care.  If you find yourself caught on the wrong side of the river wait for a boat to come by and stick your thumb out to hitch a ride back to the other side of the river.  Any one would be happy to oblige.  Don’t forget the 2011 Sow Bug Round up on march 17-18-19th.

The federal government is planning to eliminate funding to nine Federal fish hatcheries in GA, TN, UT, MO, ND, and AR, which will result in their closure. The closure of these hatcheries will have a lasting impact on local, State, and federal economies. These facilities also provide enormous ecological and social contributions to local and state communities. Nearly 7 million fish are stocked in waters across the country from only six of these hatcheries. The economic impact is tremendous – over 3,000 jobs created and a total economic output of nearly 300 million dollars is generated by privately owned businesses selling food, lodging and supplies to trout fishermen. For every dollar spent on these fishery programs a return of $67 dollars is generated in the private sector, and for each tax dollar spent producing trout, $2.34 is returned to Washington in federal tax dollars generated from private business.

  1. Jim,

Nice underwater shot with the camera on the Brown. Would you share with us the camera you used on that, obviously a water-proof camera, Make/ Model?

  2. Every Fisherman in America who is old enough to vote needs to contact their US Senator
and their Representative and urge them to vote no on this Bill. If this bill is passed
we need we need to vote them out of office. This Bill needs to be voted down.
