This past week generation has changed with an every other day schedule of generation with no generation the next day until much later. Hopper action is picking up and working better on weak generation. Sulphers are still happening on the upper end of the river from the narrows up to the dam. The river has more fish in it at this time due to stocking and the ramp up for the July 4th weekend. Friday I fished with a Father and Son for the morning. At No Name Shoals we spotted a pod of brown trout. After an hour of drills with Austin on casting and landing “bows” he made a sight cast to this fish and hooked it. Outstanding cast, mending and playing of this fish. It measured out at just over 24 1/8 inches. Friday morning on a planaria #20 All in all 6 brown trout at this spot above White Hole in skinny water up against a ledge.
Our lack of rain has also brought burn bans to both counties on either side of the river which is a bummer for campers. Day time temps are topping out in the high 90’s and today we hit 101 f. As the day progresses on low water the catching slows down so we are looking for generation to turn the fish back on.
Good Fishing. July should be a great month with Hopper action picking up and lasting into september. Last year we were still fishing hoppers and ants into November.
