Sept 25 th Fishing Report

Since September 10th I’d say that the fishing has been “fair” with a few good days here and there with the brown trout catching no where near what it was like.  Our brown trout are on the move still and are a bit tough to find unless you look for them in shallow gravel areas.  They are in the pre-spawn mode and are also very spooky.  Generation has been pretty consistent with weak generation of mostly a unit or less with the occasional bump of up to 4 units during the evening.  The black caddis hatch is happening late in the day.  These are a micro type caddis so using caddis pupae and larva will bring some takes.  Midges in red, planarian in tan, cerise and red as well as San Juan worms will get fish to the net.  Looking for rises of water are usually best and on some days the fluctuation or “yo-y0’ing” of the water is frustrating.  Black ants at the dam are still working on some days and are best fished with another fly dropped below it.  September is a transition month like April so fishing can be unpredictable with each day much different than the one before.  Throw in some goofy generation schedules!  You get my point.  It will soon change like it always does.

Fly Shop News:  X-Sm silver wire is back in stock. We are also currently out of 5/64 or 2 mm tungsten beads in silver, copper & nickel but do have silver and copper 5/64 or 2 mm slotted beads in lieu of.  September is a transition month like April so fishing can be unpredictable with each day much different than the one before.  Throw in some goofy generation schedules!  You get my point.  It will soon change like it always does.
