Spring like weather prevails in the Ozarks this past week with the highs yesterday in the 70’s. Isn’t it great. Looks like today is going to be in the 60’s with mid 50’s on friday and sat and hight 60’s on Monday. A great time to go fishing. Today the generation schedule is also calling for a shut down from Noon till 5:00 p.m. Of course this was also the case on tuesday but never happened. I think it actually will today. It did last thursday. But then I’ve been wrong before. If so I’m gonna take out the greys 4 wt and fish for an hour or two. Gotta love those 10 footers for mending.

On the Norfork is scheduled to be shut down from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm. Here are some lake and D.O. stats from this week on Norfork Lake. At the surface the temp is 43 f with a D.O. of 11.37~At 35 feet the temp is 42.1 and the D.O. is 12.99~ At 100 ft the temp is 41.9 and the D.O. is 12.82 ~at 140 ft the temp is 41.7 and the D.O. is 12.76 ~ At the 180 foot level the temp is 41.9 and the D.O. is 11.76. All is well with the fork at the moment. Should be getting the stats for Bull Shoals Lake in the next week or so.

Fishing yesterday on fluctuating water was a challenge for sure. At 3:00 pm it looked as though Bull Shoals dam was shutting down with generation dropping down to a little over one unit. Then the water came came back up to 4 units just after 4:00 pm. The BR-549 and the dash-2 were the fish catching flies for the afternoon with Davy’s white tail midges and a tan scud the better flies for the morning. Last week when the water was shut off scud in 18 and 16’s were all over the place and migrating. If the water is shut off I would think a scud would be a great fly to fish on low water along with various types of thread midges as well as emerger type midges such as loop wing CDC type flies on the surface or split shotted and fished on the bottom. Drop by the shop. I have all of them. A fresh new batch of Gonzo midges is on the way as well so the Gonzo box will be full for any low water we should get the for the next few weeks. Our first spring rain storm passed through yesterday evening dropping hail on us for a short time and then some rain. Not enough to change the lake levels. At this point in time our rain levels are way down from the previous two years so maybe we are back into some normal rainfall patterns.
