This past week Larry H. from St. Louis and an OFF (Ozark Fly Fisher member) spent three days catching with Fly Fish Arkansas on the White River. Generation hasn’t changed in a few weeks but the temps did and on one day there was even a full moon which if you are a regular reader of this site you know I feel it slows the catching down. It did on wednesday somewhat but we also had a front come through. Normally at this time of the year when cold fronts come through it turns the fish on and I think that is what happened on tuesday. It was however much slower than the day before and on the day after. What I’m saying is that if not for the cold front the catching would have been even much slower. All three days Larry hooked and landed some great fish including some great brown trout and some really nice 18 inch bows. When larry told me he hasn’t been fly fishing but for a couple of years it surprised me because by the way he was casting and mending I would have thought he had been fly fishing for a long time. Outstanding job Larry. Keep up the good work and have fun at the OFF outing at Taneycomo.
The D.O. has been a bit tough on the fish we caught and for that reason did not take all of the pictures we could have in order to protect these fish. This low D.O. problem should pass soon with colder weather.
Conclave will be upon us soon so check out the SOC website http://www.southerncouncilfff.org for the latest info and happenings.
As of 10:00 am today the lake level is at 659.36 or just over 3 1/2 feet above normal pool elevation. This does not mean that generation will suddenly cease as the corps could decide to drop the lake even further for a number of reasons. It has happened before but I do think that we will see less generation than we have been seeing which has been at 16,000 CFS to 16,800 CFS.
