River Clearing~Lake Dropping Fast

Bull Shoals lake has dropped almost 5″ over the last 24 hour period and is now down to 661.71 as of 2:00 A.M. this morning.  This mossy algae problem that we’ve had trashing up the river is also starting to clear up somewhat with the steady flows we’ve seen over the past few days.  The sulpher hatch has also started and is much heavier down stream that on the upper end of the river.  We were seeing some hatching as far upstream  as partee shoals just below Gastons resort and the occasional stray further upstream as far as Newlands hole.

This past week we were getting some good bows up to 21 inches in the C&R area and yesterday our biggest was 18 inches.  The fly I was using to catch these fish seems to have stopped working at the moment but I’ll find another one in the next day or two.  The pic below is of a fish caught by Garrett of Wimberly Texas

It won’t be long before we are down to normal pool elevation of 654.00′ at the rate the lake is dropping and at this rate of generation.  My guess would be by the end of June if we do not get any major rain.  However this big water we’ve had for the past few years is what is responsible for the growth of our fish on the White River and the primary reason our bows have grown as they have and continued generation patterns will only increase the length and girth of these fish.

Fly Shop News:

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve added Chota waders and boots to our inventory as well as The Bug Shop glo bug yarn.  As the summer progresses we will begin to see hoppers.  The shop has a number of different styles of hoppers which will work on any level of generation when the hopper action begins.  Greys rods are also in stock and we also are now stocking Greys reels to go along with the Greys rods.  Drop in to see the new additions and pick up your tungsten beads and other tying materials.

Good Fishing
