Hatchery Meeting May 12 Gastons Conference Center 5:00 PM

Don’t forget recently retired U.S. Fisheries Chief, Dr. Stuart Leon will speak out on national hatchery funding woes at Gaston’s Resort on Saturday.

There has been increasing pressure on the Federal Government to deliver a stable, long-term funding package for the “mitigation hatcheries”, including Norfork and Greer’s Ferry National Fish Hatcheries. The hatcheries were establish to replace the existing smallmouth fishery, after the Dams started cold water releases.

On March 31, 2012 Dr. Leon retired after 25 years of dedicated service to the U. S. Fish and Wildlife. As Chief of Fisheries and Aquatic Conservation one of Dr. Leon’s duties also included matters of budget for our National Fish Hatchery System.

At the request of Ms. Teresa “Bird” Van Winkle, Dr. Leon accepted the invitation to come and address issues of our local hatchery budget after which Dr. Leon will accept questions and hold open discussions in a town hall style meeting.

Working with Ms. Van Winkle are Mr. Jim Gaston, owner, Gaston’s Resort and Mr. Jim Dugan, owner, Dally’s Ozark Fly Fishers, Cotter to bring Dr. Leon to the area.
Everyone is encouraged to attend. Seating is first come, first serve, and is sure to be well attended.
