Sarah with first trout on fly rod

Yesterday morning saw a short shad kill early.   The water of course dropped throughout the morning and the fishing was not as good as I thought it was going to be … until that is the water was shut off.  The fish were liking the no flows as lots of numbers of fish were to be had.  Just about every cast produce fish on a long leader with #4 shot.  The fish took loop wing midges, trout crack and 3 colors of san juan worms.  Brent M from St. Louis and his lady friend Sarah had a pretty good day.  See the Gallery for pics.  We also had some fun with our cameras taking pics of migrating scud.  Great weather in the high 50’s with little a little wind that died about 2:00 pm this afternoon.  Right at 5:00 pm the horn sounded and the water come up fast.  It was good to wade again.

Perhaps we will begin to see some low or no flows at times for some wade fishing.  If you happen to be in Mt. Home make sure to drop by and pick up some Gonzo or Davy Wotton midges for your low water fishing and don’t forget to check out the new batch of partridge that just arrived from Iowa.  Premium AA grade at $31.00 per skin.  See the fly shop page.

There is also a new article on fishing for big fish on low water and is now posted on the articles page.

Stay fishy my friends.

Jim
