Check out the new White River Fly Gallery. I’ll be adding flies to it and of course they are all for sale in the fly shop.

Generation ended last night at 6:00 pm and isn’t scheduled to be back on today until 4:00 pm and should run for three hours. Yesterday my friend and fellow guide Ron Yarborough and I hit the river for a few hours. We caught lots of these:
Bows...
Using mostly this fly:
Planarium
and this fly which is a trout crack.

This is Ron with a fish on.

I also used Leonards Roo Scud but don’t have a pic uploaded into the fly gallery as yet. We also used a San Juan worm in the wapsi worm color. Using long leaders 18 ft with 5X tippet 1/2 of a palsa indicator and a # 6 shot we were sight fishing to some big fish. The rainbows were so aggressive that our drifts were hi-jacked by the rainbows. These bows are liking this low water for sure.

Also got a report last week of a number of dead fish right up at the dam on the grassy side of marion county. More than likely caused by some low D.O. coming out of the dam.

As you can see D.O. in the 4 to 5 range is not good. It should be at least 6.0 or better and 7 should be the minimum for these fish to survive at the dam. The count of dead fish in the 16 to 20 inch range was roughly 30 fish. This happened 4 years ago last september and we lost hundreds of fish in the 18 to 24 inch range. It’s also a problem on the Norfork river. What would solve this? Dissolved oxygen of course. What’s the solution? A fore-bay O2 system in which a pipe that pumps air is run on the lake side of the dam. Air is piped through and is released through holes which then get sucked into the generators or the house generators. The O2 then mixes with the water and gets oxygenated as it comes out of the river side of the dam.

Good fishing.
