Can’t believe I get paid to do this guiding thing and have so much fun at the same time. The terrestrial fishing is as hot as it’s been since before the flood gates and all the rain we’ve had over the past couple of years, 2007 was the last good year we had on the surface like we’ve had now. I love this weak generation we are getting at this time as it is perfect for this type of fishing. It’s hard to beat a hopper and a dropper.
Chernobyl ants as well as Dave’s hoppers, parachute hoppers, black foam ants, bulbous bi-visibles and other various hopper ant looking type of flies are HOT… ON FIRE. I fished a gentle man earlier in the week who never had a fly rod in his hand before. What a treat for me when someone picks up a Greys 10 ft 3 weight for the first time and in a matter of 30 minutes is casting 4o feet and catching fish. All week long this weak generation has provided some fabulous opportunities for surface action which should continue through the middle of September.
The hopper – dropper fishing is fabulous throughout the White River and reports from the confluence of the Norfork all the way up to the dam have been good. Thats 45 mils of river.
