Fishing Report: June

Incredibly good fishing this june for trout on the White River below bull shoals dam on various types of midges.  It’s all about the generation.  In the mornings the water levels are lower with two units or so (6,000 CFS) and amping up as the morning progresses.  I’ve been riding this rise in the clean water until I run into the dirty or mossy water which is usually at white hole and then take lunch.  After lunch I make a run back up to the dam and re-rig for deeper faster water.  This water at the dam is much cleaner and less mossy than the water down stream.  I’ve been experimenting with some new midge patterns with the hot colored “SAVAGE” beads.  As my friend Davy Wotton says ” in the afternoons when it slows down you’ve got to turn heads” and both he and I have been experimenting with new patterns and many of them are working.  I’ve been rigging with a long leader 7 to 14 feet depending on the generation levels and using just enough shot to get the fly down.  Our numbers of fish are good at around 45 to 70 a day with two fishers in the boat.  We are pulling a few brown trout out and we did get a nice cut earlier in the week at 15 inches.
