Higher Releases on Norfork 10,000 CFS

CORPS TO INCREASE RELEASE FROM NORFORK DAM

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Little Rock District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports that releases from Norfork Dam are increasing to 10,000 cubic feet per second at 5 p.m. today because of additional rain that has fallen today.  With more rain in the forecast, larger releases could become necessary.

The lake has captured a huge amount of runoff from intensive rains earlier in the week.  The lake is at elevation 579.7 this afternoon and continuing to rise, with 99 percent of flood storage capacity in use.  If increased releases are not begun today, Norfork will exceed its flood storage capacity by Monday and still be rising with no more rainfall.

A release of 10,000 c.f.s. will potentially raise the White River crest at Newport by 0.1 foot on Thursday.
