Low Water at Buffalo Shoals

Cold this morning with temps at the dam of 19.9f at 6:25 am.  The lake level is 654.15 an should start dropping a little faster with out any major rain getting in the way.  Flows since midnight have been at 11,500 CFS.  Flows for the day are scheduled for for the same at 11,500 to 12,000 cfs or 4 units or so.  It seems as though it has taken all winter and most of the past week just for the lake to get close to the normal pool elevation of 654.oo MSL and I guess it has.  Eventually we’ll see some wadeable water as we are now seeing some on the Norfork from time to time.  It has also been a strange year for our shad kill in that all the conditions have been right such as lake temps and generation but we don’t seem to have many coming through.  At least during the day when they can be seen but the fish seem to be stuffed with lumpy bellies that appear to be shad.  I did get a report yesterday of dead shad 40 miles up the lake and covering an arm of the lake.  The lake temp is 41.5f from top to bottom.  it just goes to show that in fishing when you think you’ve got it figured out mother nature will let you know just how much one really dosn’t know.  Feb has been very busy for this guide and if you are on the river for the next three days then I’ll see you out there.

Stay fishy my friends.

Jim
